It is difficult to meet the demands of learning Turkish all over the world. Especially for learners who enroll from a broad range of cultural backgrounds, preferences, needs, ideas. Nonetheless, Turkish teaching standards, which are required for designing and developing effective distance learning, are not yet formed. There are not any content standards considering the individual differences and learning readiness. Therefore, the research project team developed a system which offers differentiated instruction according to the readiness level of the learner to learn Turkish as a foreign language.
This study presents a set of recommendations from the experience of the researchers involved in the design, development and running of massive open online course (MOOC) about differentiated instruction of Turkish as a foreign language. Differentiated instruction addresses differences in learner preparation, interests, and strengths by offering a variety of learning pathways within the platform that differ in terms of content, activities and evaluation.
We are going to share our experiences from the design phase, platform development, course design, image sourcing, video production and post-production. The parameters of the algorithm learnt by tracking and evaluating learners’ behaviours in system will be discussed as well as the tools and technologies deployed during the pilot, and the key content sources the teams discovered to make the course a successful learning experience.

MOOC content was designed with the principles, theories, and philosophy of open and distance learning. In addition, it is compatible with Yunus Emre Institute and Turkish Language Learning Research and Application Centers (TÖMER).
