Margaret Farren is the Director of the M.Sc Education and Training Management (e-learning) at Dublin City University. The M.Sc e-learning is run as a two year part time or one year full time programme. Participants on the programme are drawn from education, training, industry, nursing and the community sector. In January 2002, Margaret was awarded a Teaching and Learning Fellowship by DCU. The purpose of the award was to support strategic innovation and enhancement of the University's Teaching and Learning activities As part of her Fellowship, she attended the 'Teaching for Understanding' programme at Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2005 she won a DCU Project award to develop an enhanced learning environment through Moodle, an open source content management system.
Margaret Farren finished her PhD in 2006. In her practice-based research, Margaret demonstrates how she is contributing to a knowledge base of practice by creating my 'living educational theory'. This involves systematically researching her practice in order to bring about improvement (Farren, 2004, 2005; Farren and Whitehead, 2005). She has recently presented her research as part of an invited symposium at the European Association of Learning Instruction and at the British Educational Research Association conference.
