Exploring the possibilities of the flexible open classroom in adult learning
30 Januar 2003
The project aims at improving adult learning by sharing experiences and developping new ideas through a network of teachers and learners.
Thematic Network
The changes in the recent years within economy, technology and social patterns will influence the methods for and organisation of adult learning in the future Europe. In different parts of Europe different approaches prevail. Technology has now made it possible to share these ideas to a much greater extent than before.
Therefore the project is aimed at establishing a network in order to expand and enrich the national and regional focus within adult learning to be able to share experiences, develop new ideas and investigate similarities and differences.
The main idea in this pedagogical approach is that the students on an independent, voluntary basis get the possibility to learn at their own speed and based on their individual qualifications and experiences. This will normally also lead to a change in the teacher's role, as this person will be obliged to step out of his or her traditional role and give advice and help based on the individual student's needs and wants, and become more of a partner than an authority speaking from above.

European Methodology for Accreditating Prior Experiential Learning in Lifelong Learning
30 Januar 2003
The project promotes adults' demand for lifelong learning through the accreditation of prior experience and learning bye mens of the ICT.
The project:
- Improves the employability of adults by acquiring or updating their general skills, enhances their capacity to enter or re-enter formal education and increases their capacity to play a full and active role in society and develop their intercultural awareness in the circumstances of each Member State and its regions, and Accession Countries.
- Improves the supply of lifelong learning which will expand lifelong learning by encouraging and facilitating access to programmes of learning, developing a skilled workforce; increasing participation of non-traditional adults and the poorly qualified; validating and recognising skills, especially those developed in the workplace.
- Develops and tests a flexible accreditation and certification system based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for lifelong learning which will facilitate mobility between the formal and non-formal educational sectors, and provide effective and efficient means of recording reliable and valid information on individuals' achievements.
- This system will develop criteria to differentiate between the learning levels, defining quality criteria, defining the reasons for learning, and which assesses learning outcomes.
- Develops training resources, using on-line learning, to promote this framework among lifelong learning providers.

Adult Study Net
30 Januar 2003
The main idea of the thematic/project network is to spread the use of ICT in adult education.
The objectives will be reached by means of:
· testing national, regional and local ICT-networks for studies, meetings/discussions and information;
· testing the conditions for a European ICT/network for adult education.
An already functioning format for an ICT-co-operation network will be tested during this project in other countries incorporating the following principles:
· horizontal structure;
· a simple form, user-friendly, available and cost-efficient;
· used for studies, a meeting place and information message board;
· with the possibility of creating local, regional and national networks and facilitating cooperation between partners.
Besides this, the corresponding transnational applications will be tested by forming a study/discussion group on a common platform as part of testing the basis for a future European adult education ICT-network.

Un cadre européen pour l'enseignement/apprentissage collaboratif des langues à distance
29 Januar 2003
The project aims at developping a programme for teaching English and French via the ICTs.
The project which is co-financed by the European Commission (Lingua D/2) is carried out by 14 European institutions in total (schools, universities and enterprises). Its aim is to develop teaching and learning material for collaborative open distance learning on the Web in three languages: English, French and Spanish.
Each language is grouped around a certain metaphor:
- English: A themepark: Themepark
- Spanish: A person: Español con Carlitos
- French: A TV-programme: Canal Rêve
Each site provides the users with the following information:
- Coherent interactive didactical units which provide different activities : An interface will exploit the possibilities of multimedia and will give access to different levels and activities, all grouped around specific topics in the frame of a metapher. There will be different levels for the language learners.
- "Events": certain activities, changing and taking place within certain periods of time. These events have the character of a contest. There is a jury who selects the best production and prizes the best contributions. This encourages the communication and the collaborative work between the different European participants, the different levels of learners, but also teachers.
- A centre of resources for language teachers and learners: with pedagogical material giving information about the WEB and the didactics of language teaching with the means of the WEB, especially guidelines for the above mentioned units. This materiel proposes a didactic reflection , which allows teachers to inform themselves and to learn something out of it.
The project addresses itself on the one hand side to adult learners and to adults of different levels. The online activities want to familiarise the learner with ICT. On the other hand side the products which are put online allow the language teachers to work with ICT and to use the resources which are allowed by the WEB.

Mobilising the potential infrastructure of lifelong learning.
29 Januar 2003
The project aims at collecting good examples of lifelong learning activities to encourage cooperation among adult educators.
The projects objective is to encourage co-operation among adult educators and others, all over Europe. The project is a kind of ''marketing campaign'' built on a theoretically constructed order on co-operation in adult education and a database with good examples, supplemented with a web site, a book and a conference to communicate it all.
The target group is all persons working with adult education - especially decision makers - and others that might have something to contribute. Main activities will be collected of good examples and systematising them into a kind of taxonomy and a data-base.
Outputs :
The taxonomy will be a tree - on the screen. The good examples could be reached either from the tree or by ordinary database searching.
The book will contain the taxonomy and the best of the examples. It will be more like a marketing booklet than a report. Examples of agreement about co-operation, etc. will be included.
On the web-site the visitors will be able not only to see how the taxonomy and the database develops but also make their own contributions.
At the conference there will be wokrshops for discussions and exchange of experiences, plus plenary meetings for group-reports, i.e. adding ''results'' to the taxonomy

The objective is based on a need that the handicap organisations have called attention
to, namely to train people with own disabilities in leadership
to, namely to train people with own disabilities in leadership
The project is based on the social problem reflected in investigations and scientific research: ''The majority of mentally disabled are left out when it comes to degree of knowledge and education''. In combination with disabilities and other people's prejudices this makes a normal life difficult or impossible, e.g. in entering the labour market.
The project points to the creating of new ways to recruit and a pedagogical educational method / generator of initiative, combined with ICT's possibilities and actual opportunities of work practise.
The project is permeated by a conscious strategy, increasing the understanding of
transnational belonging and mutual dependence, for instance through an integrated base
of training and development. A virtual network where all actors are active through an
individual platform.
The web site will secure a high degree of users and promote the use of multiple languages. The transnational teamwork generates understanding for own and other people's needs.
The identity is strengthened and one can recapture one's life. Ways of recruitment, educational methods / experiences and effects will be produced in the form of in a guidebook and a handbook for further distribution.
